Schools out for Summer!!!!

It was a wonderful last few days.

As some of you know I am moving up to Grade 6 at a school closer to my home. I live in the deep south, so Beddington has been quite the trek for me the last 4 years. I am excited for a new adventure, but I will miss seeing your little ones next year.

I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing summer.

Please keep in touch :)

Oops I guess the pictures didn't show up in the last post.
There is a grey jacket under the hat too.
The school is open until 2:30 today, (Thursday) and is open until 1:30 on Friday.

MONDAY!!!!

We've earned a movie party!!!! So on Monday we will watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005).
We will be able to wear PJ's but remember we will have outdoor PE and NO STUFFY'S this time. If your child wants to bring some microwave popcorn I am willing to pop a bag, OR you can pop it at home and send it in. (Hopefully everyone doesn't want a bag popped ha ha)

Today zoomed right by!

We worked on a journal entry about our weekend and read a short story that we had to answer some questions about.

This afternoon we went to go work on our Willy Wonka letters and found out we lost them :( we will need to restart. But now that everyone knows what to do it should go quickly and smoothly.

Then we were surprised with Ms. Yu in for Mr. Wiens in Music class! That was so fun!

Reminder to send back all Home Reading books or $5 for lost books. I will send home a note later this week for students who have not handed theirs in.

Have a great evening!

RE: Celebrate Ramadan & Worms

Tomorrow, Tuesday, we will "fast" for our recess snack and learn a little more about Ramadan and Eif El Fitr. Our recess fast will be totally voluntary and if a student complains of hunger, I will make sure they eat straight away. We will not be fasting water.

Talk with your child about whether they want to do this fast with the class or not. Although we all have different religious beliefs, I believe it is important to learn about all religions and cultures. Just like we talk about and celebrate other holidays like; Christmas, Easter , Birthdays, May the 4th, etc. I find this helps us with accepting diverse people we are in contact with.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Today we learned a little bit about worms! Ask your child one thing they learned.

Sports Day

Thursday June 7th is sports day. It will be regular classes in the morning and then activities all afternoon. The forecast is looking good with a high of 26 predicted. If you wish for your child to wear sun screen please send them to school with it as we are not allowed to provide it to students. I recommend wearing a hat, sunglasses, good running shoes and to bring a water bottle. We will have 3 stations that involve water with a chance of getting slightly wet. All stations are optional so if you wish your child not to participate in these events, please let them know to skip those. The day will end with freezies provided by parent council in the gym about 10 minutes before dismissal. If the weather changes and it raining or unsafe to go ahead with sports day we will re-schedule to a later date.
Any questions or concerns can be directed to Mr. Sadowsky.
Thank you

Lost and Found

Tomorrow, Friday, is the last day to take a look through the lost and found. There are over 60 hoodies, a number of waterbottles and lunch kits and tons of clothes. Please chat with your child if you think they are missing something.

On Friday all the leftover Lost & Found will be bagged up and donated.

Mrs. Nelson woke up sick this morning, so we had a pretty quiet day. Ms. Yu will be with the students tomorrow. How exciting!

We have a big Reading Rally tomorrow afternoon which sounds like it will be a lot of fun, I'm sad to miss it.

Tomorrow is also the last day of school this week. No school Friday! So please study your spelling words as that will take place in the morning.

Stay Healthy :)

Monday 28 May 2018

Spelling Words were chosen by each group. They went through their books and chose words for this week.
Group A - was, you, she, cone, rome, likes, make, dish, want, favourite
Group B - was, going, say, paint, will, puppy, play, get, turn, belong
Group C - joked, received, smile, money, between, please, zipper, light, then, afraid, spelling, middle, which, may, when

With PE being outside, it is important that students bring waterbottles and hats to help protect them from the sun. We do not have time to put sunscreen on before heading out for PE so please try to do that in the mornings before getting to school.

Our new Science Topic is, Small Crawling and Flying Animals. We are excited to learn about lots of creepy crawlers. We are working at making sure each of our sentences has a capital, noun, verb and period or other end mark. You can work on this at home too. We are also working on stretching our sentences. Ask your child the difference between a stretched and a non-stretched sentence.

Note for this Thursday from Ms. Cokar
On Thursday, May 31 Calgary Reads is hosting a Reading Rally for all our Grade 1/2 students. Calgary Reads will have over 20 volunteer readers and we are looking for a few more. If you have your volunteer clearance and are available the afternoon of May 31, please email Ms. Cokar at nmcokar@cbe.ab.ca as soon as possible. Volunteers will read with two students for about 20 minutes, be entertained by the teachers performing a Reader's Theatre, listen to a guest reader sharing a story, and then read with two more students. Approximate times are 12:30 to 2:00.

If you want to become an official Calgary Reads wee reads volunteer and have your volunteer clearance, please contact Ms. Cokar for more information.

Apologies the blog has not come out recently. It has snuck away on us.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Spring Concert last night. It was awesome to see so much support. Your children played and sang beautifully and I am so proud of them.

The Kinder and Grade 4-6 concert is this evening. Enjoy if you are going.

Friday, tomorrow, is our Pillars of Care Assembly. You should have received the invites last night if your child is receiving an award. Hope to see you at 8:15 am for that.

I cannot believe May is almost over! This year has flown right by. Keep up the reading each day. It will help your child to maintain their reading level over the summer and be ready for the next school year.

Thank you also to everyone who was able to come and meet with me last week. It was lovely to see you all. If you were unable to come and would still like to meet, please let me know and we will set something up.

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weather we are having! Cheers!

Tuesday 8 May 2018

Ms Yu came to visit this afternoon! It was so fun to see her!

Scholastic Orders are due back tomorrow! Thanks for those who have already sent in their orders.

We have a Volunteer Tea coming up on the morning of June 8th. We would love to see all our lovely volunteers come so we can show our appreciation for you. An invitation will be coming home next week.

We are having PE outdoors if the weather is good, so please send your child with a hat and put some sunscreen on them in the morning or send it with them if they know how to do it themselves. Waterbottles can be taken outside also, but please talk with your child about making sure they go to the washroom during recess or lunch so they don't miss out on their PE time. Teachers cannot be taking students in to constantly go to the bathroom or get a drink of water. We need to help with supervision and running the activities.

We will soon be learning about Small Crawling and Flying Animals in Science! It is a fun unit to be able to take a closer look at all the creepy crawlers around us. We will be finishing up our Boats and Buoyancy unit early next week.

Monday 7 May 2018

Fun Lunch

Tomorrow is our Pizza Fun Lunch! Please remember to send a snack for recess so your child can keep up their brain energy...their regular energy is high enough :)

Scholastic Book orders for May are due this Wednesday! Before we know it our last orders will be going out...aaaah!

Today was our crazy wazy day! Day 3!!! We just get going on an activity and then have to go to PE or Music, but then we get to come back to it. We worked on our Bluenose Concept map and made some great connections and asked some wonderful questions. I am looking forward to sharing these with you in the coming weeks.

Ms. Yu will be visiting us Tuesday afternoon!!! YEA! She is hired on as a sub for the CBE and is just waiting for all her paperwork to go through, hopefully that will be in the next couple weeks. Mrs. Nelson will have to take a day or two off so Ms. Yu can be back with the kiddos.

This Thursday and Friday, Mrs. Nelson will be away and Mr. Depew will be subbing (he is an old friend of Mrs. Nelson's.

School Carnival

See the picture for details about a fun carnival here at Beddington!

PJ Day Tomorrow AND Star Wars Day

If you've got Star Warts Pajamas then you have got it made! Wear PJ's or Star Wars attire tomorrow! PJ's were earned because we met our goal for Pillars of Care Month and Star Wars Day because May the 4th Be With You!

You are allowed to bring a stuffy and some popcorn for a special movie premiere of Charlotte's Web!!!

Today we had Constable Kovacs come to our class and teach us about how to deal with the tools we have to stay healthy and safe. We can make good choices using our BRAIN. We can ask for help using our MOUTH. We can listen to someone talk with our EARS. We can get active or move away from a problem using our LEGS. And most importantly we can use our HEART to show that we care and that we care for others.

We also discussed the reason for wearing Hats for Mental Health. Even though you cannot see that someone is sick, it is important to treat people with a Mental Illness the same way you would treat a friend with a broken arm. Help your friends out and listen when they need to talk.

Spelling Quiz tomorrow morning!
Group A - bell, fell, tell, shell, like, ball, fall, tall, hill, mill
Group B - did, but, most, kind, find, fave, not, give, going, doing

Hats on for Mental Health

Hats on for Mental Health Thursday! It was supposed to be today, but it was our Picture Day so it's tomorrow for us! Please wear a hat tomorrow and we will discuss different Mental Health topics.

We worked really hard on our Spelling this morning. I was so proud of the whole class!

We are almost finished reading Charlotte's Web. Ask your child what just happened. The kids have decided they like when I read because I use really good EXPRESSION!!!! Ask them to show you what they mean.

Tomorrow we have Constable Kovacs coming to our classroom to discuss some safety information. We will tell you all about it tomorrow.

Have a beautiful sunny day :)

Tuesday 1 May 2018

Picture Day

Picture Day tomorrow!!! Each student who has their picture taken will earn our school $2. There is no need to make any purchases! Sounds like a good deal to me. :)

New Spelling Words came home today. They may look familiar as I took old words that some students in each group needed to work on. We are doing a massive review!

Dance Club started today! I think the kids had a great time!

Writing Club runs tomorrow! I love that some students have joined and are working on their creative writing.

This afternoon we worked on typing. Students had to write 5 sentences. Most students printed their typing and brought it home. Afterwards a few students enjoyed Mathletics and then we had Music.

Thanks for getting your kids here on time today! It was a full house and no one was late!!! Way to go Room 4 Family's!

Monday 30 April 2018

Lazer Tag Reading

Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be our first draw for Lazer Tag passes. Students who have read 10 books in the month of April and had their parents sign off on the given paper, will be entered into a draw to win 1 free game for 2 people.
We will start May with a new form! You can fill out as many forms as you want (each one with 10 different books)

Today we chose to use a character from our book as our Star Student! Charlotte was chosen and students will be writing about her all this week. We know lots of things about her. Ask your child something about Charlotte. We have 2 chapters left to read in our book and then we will watch one of the movies.

We are starting a new way of spelling, so we will take a quick break this week and refocus on it next week. Keep working on reading and spelling words at home. I love this time of year, because I really get to see kids take off in their learning. It's such a beautiful thing.

Tomorrow is Library Day - please return your book if you haven't already.

Thank you to the 5 Students who returned their Red Home Reading Logs and Books - you have been consistent with that all year. It's not too late for the other 17 kids. You can bring it in and exchange for new books and stay consistent the rest of the school year.

Reminders:
- return Hot Lunch forms by next Wednesday, May 2nd.
- Spring Photo Day is on May 2. For every student and stuff member that has their photo taken, LifeTouch will donate $2 to our school. Let's get all dolled up and get our picture taken :) "cheese" (no purchase necessary)
- Donate books to the parent council
- Return pink form about next school year

Wednesday 25 April 2018

In both blogs this week I've forgotten to put in the spelling words....I'm lost without Ms. Yu ha ha :)
I've taken a look at your child's Spelling over the last several weeks and I feel that there is a change needed. Starting on Monday, we will redo words that we have previously gotten wrong. We will do this for the Month of May and once we've redone all those words I will begin to add in new words again.

Please practice with your child daily. They receive a list of their words at the beginning of each week and are supposed to be practicing each day.

Fire Drill

Today we had a fire drill and it went less than desirable. Students were in the Music room with the Music teacher. As with our classroom the teacher is the last one out of the class to make sure everyone is out before shutting the door. Students from Room 4 did not follow safety protocol during this drill. Below are a list of issues that happened:

- ran down the hallway and out 4 different doors (3 of the doors were far away from the music room)
- only 1 student went out the correct door
- screaming and yelling
- running outside
- playing tag while names were being called
- talking and fooling around while names were being called

Students were spoken to by Mr. Wiens, the Music Teacher and practiced the route. Afterwards, I spoke with them and most were able to honestly tell me what mistakes they made. Some students still lied but then later told the truth.

Please speak with your child about the importance of fire safety and going out the closest door during a fire alarm.

Monday 23 April 2018

We said Good-bye to Ms. Yu last Thursday. Only a few tears were shed. We have loved all of her hardwork and wish her all the best in her career as a teacher.

Your child may have worn a blue shirt home on Thursday. That was the Punctuality Award for March. If your child was not late at all in March they should've received a t-shirt. They are big enough for them to grow into over their years at school!

Today was a lovely day. We spent some of the morning reviewing expectations and the Pillars of Care. We will review all of our topics that we have done in the last 2 months and make sure we have an understanding of all our recent curriculum.

We were introduced to double-digit addition today. Ask your child about it. They should've brought home a couple sheets that we were working on. See if your child can explain it to you. We will continue to work on it over the next month.

Wednesday 18 April 2018

Charlotte!

We found a spider this morning and have nicknamed her Charlotte because we are reading Charlotte's Web. It was cool to see the kids so excited, but at the end of the day Mrs. Nelson and Ms. Yu released her back into nature.

We have a Spelling Quiz tomorrow morning. Study study study!

Tomorrow afternoon we will have our Pillar of Care Assembly at 1:15pm

We will also say Good-bye to Ms. Yu tomorrow....send tissues ha ha :'-(

Today we did a fun Mystery Box activity where we had to ask questions and guess the hidden shape. Try it at home!

Only 1 more session of Coding Club for some of our Grade 2 students. Ask your child if they are in this club and if they are, ask them what they have been doing.

Students who received Perfect Punctuality for March will be receiving a Alberta Ballet Sharing Dance t-shirt tomorrow. We have put your child's name on the tag to help with lost items ;)

Tuesday 17 April 2018

Humboldt Strong

On Friday April 6, 2018, a tragic bus accident on a rural highway near Tisdale, Saskatchewan claimed the lives of 15 people traveling to the Humbolt Broncos junior hockey playoff game in Nipawin.

In an act of solidarity to show compassion and care for all those affected by this terrible loss, all members of our Beddington Heights School community are encouraged to wear a team jersey, t-shirt, or school shirt this Thursday April 12, 2018.

Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Thank you for your support.

Friday 6 April 2018

Makerspace!!!

Today after PE we went into the Kindergarten room and created new tinfoil boats. This time we were given extra materials: elastic bands, wooden stir sticks and plastic straws. We used marbles instead of pennies to weigh them down in the water. Two boats were able to hold 96 marbles!!!! Yesterday we had a boat hold 96 pennies! Marbles are heavier, so we definitely learned from our experimenting yesterday! Way to go!

Please continue to send in Boats and Buoyancy Field Trip forms with the $10 payment. We still need 2 more volunteers! Please help us out next Wednesday afternoon!

We also practiced our Dance in PE today too! We just need a few more practices and it will be perfect!

We had our Spelling Quiz this morning. New Spelling words to come out on Monday, Please watch for these and practice daily with your child.

Thursday 5 April 2018

We had our final session with the ladies from the Alberta Ballet! We are going to learn the rest of the dance from our teachers. The Sharing Dance Day is April 19th! We are still learning how that will look for us, but we hope to be able to share this dance with you at some point this school year.

In Math we did some bunny measuring with cubes and continued some art work to go along with it.

This afternoon we learned about Boats and Buoyancy! We watched Ms. Frizzle and her class learn all about how things float and sink. Then we created our own boat with tinfoil. We put pennies inside our boats to see if they could hold some weight. Some were GREAT, while others need to figure out how to make them bette. We will do this activity again in a month or so.

Tomorrow we will have the opportunity to meet with Mr. Jackson during our Makerspace time and learn about buoyancy some more. We can't wait to see what he will teach us.

We have a Healthy Eating Challenge happening this week. We need everyone to eat a HEALTHY SNACK at our morning break to hit our Goal of 60 healthy snacks this week. I know we can do it!

Next week our goal is to have all our library books in on time. Don't be late. Send it to school Friday or Monday so you won't be late!

On April 19th, we are having a Math Showcase evening. More details to come!

Wednesday 4 April 2018

Dance tomorrow!

We hope you had a restful week off. We got right back into our routines this morning and are right back into our work.

We continued to discuss a bit about water and what our lives would be like if we had no more water on earth. Pretty scary to think about that.

Most of us are bringing home new library books and new home reading books. Please send in home reading if it's been awhile since your child exchanged books. Many students are not consistently bringing them in and it is important that they are reading everyday.

(oops - I didn't hit publish on Tuesday!!!! I'm SO sorry ha ha)

Sharing Dance

We started our morning off with Dance! Two people from the Alberta Ballet came to teach us a dance. It's so cool. We have one more session with them. Check out the dance we are learning at the link attached.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ET2QSWpvx0

Today we did a fun measurement activity where we had to measure around different parts of our body!

Then this afternoon we accidentally played a trick on Ms. Yu. We were supposed to be in the Library reading, but Mrs. Nelson took us into another class instead. Ms. Yu couldn't find us and she thought we were tricking her. It was so funny!

Then we had an Easter Egg hunt and found eggs with words inside. We can earn a reward for reading and spelling the words tomorrow.

This afternoon we started a fun painting and measurement activity. It took way longer than expected because we had to keep explaining the instructions because lots of kids weren't listening. Please talk with your child about the importance of listening to instructions.

Tuesday 27 March 2018

Happy Spring Break

I meant to post this on Friday! Sorry about that!

This last week flew right by. We had a wonderful week before Spring Break. We wish you all a happy and relaxing 11 days off! See you on April 3rd!

Thursday, we were able to eat Science!!! We took a solid and a liquid, mixed them together and we got a chemical reaction. We had gas form from that chemical reaction! It was awesome and delicious!

We enjoyed learning in our PJ's and did our first ever TEST in Science! We will be doing more 'tests' so students can prepare for next year when the Grade 2's moving into Grade 3 will write SLA's (Student Learning Assessment).

We did our spelling quizzes and caught up on our Star Student writing. After the break, students will be learning how to be more descriptive in their writing; how to take a simple sentence and make it better! Students have been doing great at editing with their CUPS! Ask your child what each letter in CUPS stands for!

Lastly, but certainly not least, we have Teacher's Pet coming into our classroom on Wednesday, April 11th, for an in-class field trip! Permission forms will be coming home our first day back! We will need 3 Volunteers in our classroom to make this awesome field trip happen. It will run from 12:30-2:30. So if you have the afternoon off and have your security clearance done, please sign up to join us. We love having you in our room.

Wednesday 21 March 2018

We are so close to earning our PJ Day, so we are hoping everyone will be on time tomorrow, Thursday! Everyone is welcome to wake up and walk out the door with their PJ's on! Bedhead and all :)

We will be having a fun filled day after our Spelling Quiz and some Catch-Up Work! Lots of awesome Science to tie up our Exploring Liquids unit and super cool Galaxy Jars! We have plenty of cotton balls and jars for those who couldn't bring them in. We have some very generous families in Room 4. Thank you! (if you're set on bringing your own jar, please do!)

Permission forms for Alberta Ballet should have come home today. They will come into the school for 2 days after the break. Please get those in ASAP!!!

Tomorrow is also the last day of school before Spring Break! We wish you all a very warm and relaxing break.

Monday 19 March 2018

A reminder that we have no Ice Skating this week as it is too warm!

We have new spelling words:
Group A - ropes, bones, kites, bees, cakes, boxes, foxes, roses, cones, books
Group B - way, away, today, chain, wait, chase, play, played, rain, paint
Group C - way, these, niece, might, show, float, brain, mean, close, tried, cube, uniform, stayed, price, usually

Short school week before we blast into Spring Break! No school Friday for the kiddos!

Hot lunch forms are due this Thursday, March 22nd! Send them in if you have them.

In Science we started an Evaporation experiment. We will finish it up after Spring Break. You could even do the experiment at home. Ask your child to show you how.

Please look for a note that was sent home about needing jars, cotton and glitter. We want to make galaxy jars, but need a few materials. Thanks for your help!

If anyone wants to help out in the classroom, we are in need of some volunteering. Please email me and let me know when you are available to come! Thanks so much :)

Cancelled Skating

Thursday, March 15, 2018 7:42 AM
I am sorry to say that ice skating for next week is officially cancelled. The outdoor rinks are not in good shape at the community centre as a result of the warm weather the past few days.

We are so sorry to report this, as we were looking forward to it too. If everyone brings their snowpants we could all get out in the snow next week. So make sure to send those Snowpants!

Today in class we continued to put our Spelling words in ABC order. We hope you've been studying for the Spelling Quiz. That's tomorrow morning.

We learned about the clothing of the people in Meteghan and then created another person with appropriate clothing.

We also marked our Leprechaun Math Measurement as a class. We played some Mathletics and are happy to report we are #1 in our school and #64 in all of Alberta! We are doing GREAT!!!!! Keep it up!

Pillars of Care Assembly at 8:15am - Your child should have brought home a Pillar Note if they are receiving an award!

Our Reading Rally was unfortunately cancelled this afternoon, due to many volunteers traveling and the roads being terrible. We hope it will be rescheduled for after Spring Break sometime.

Monday 12 March 2018

Today a field trip form came home. There is no cost to it. We will be learning how to skate at the Beddington Community Centre. We will do that next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Thursday, March 15 Calgary Reads is hosting a Reading Rally for all our Grade 1/2 students. Calgary Reads will have over 20 volunteer readers and we are looking for a few more. If you have your volunteer clearance and are available the afternoon of March 15, please email Ms.

If you want to become an official Calgary Reads wee reads volunteer and have your volunteer clearance, there will be training offered next Friday, March 16 at the Calgary Reads office. Again, please contact Ms. Cokar if you are interested in this opportunity.

PUNCTUALITY!!!

One of our current focuses at Beddington Heights is improving the number of students who arrive at school on time in the morning. In December we introduced the "Punctuality Award" at our monthly Pillars of Care assembly to recognize students who have arrived on time every day that month. We also made a promise that if our students' punctuality improved we would celebrate with a movie. We are pleased to say that we have seen an overall improvement and will be holding our first movie session tomorrow (Thursday, February 22) during lunchtime. Students that normally go home for lunch are welcome to bring their lunch and stay with their classmates to enjoy the show.

There will be no Valentine's Dance. Instead, Parent Council will do a Spring Dance in March.

Hot Lunch, for those who sent in money, will be on Wednesday, February 28th! Yummy Subway!

Our Pillar of Care Awards Assembly will be this Friday at 8:15 am. If your child received an award please ask them if they have a note for you.

In PE we are doing Olympic activities! Today we did Skeleton, Bobsled, Curling and a summer sport, Basketball. Yesterday we did dodgeball, it should be an Olympic Sport and Biathlon. Ask your child what a Biathlon is and how we demonstrate it at school.

In Math we are working on using Number Line's. Even if we don't need it, we are practicing on how to use them, so when we start using bigger numbers, we will know what to do.

In Social Studies this afternoon, we learned about Calgary's Landscape. Ask your child about it.

Students were allowed out at Lunch Recess!!!!! WOOHOO!!! Hopefully the severe cold is done for good now.

Tuesday 20 February 2018

Ms. Yu is Back!!!!

We were all very excited to have Ms. Yu back in our classroom. She will be here until the end of April.

Spelling Words - PLEASE PRACTICE DAILY!
Group A- gate, rake, name, bake, fine, bike, hide, mine, like, my

To help manage behaviour and to have students think more about their behaviours in class, your child may be bringing home a note to write an apology note regarding certain behaviours that happen in class. Please check your child's back daily for these notes. It will be a white piece of paper with instructions at the top. Some students will need help to complete it. It is due back the next day in class. If it is not returned your child will miss recess or lunch recess time to complete it independently.

If you would like to discuss this, please email me and we will set something up.

We hope you are watching the Olympics! We have watched a recap of the first 10 days and will continue each day to watch a short recap! Did you see Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue's beautiful figure skating program? We watched that during snack today.

Looks like another chilly morning tomorrow....bundle up!

Daily Olympic Update:
Canada has 10 medals - 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze - Way to go Canada!

Swimming Forms

Swimming Forms are due tomorrow!!! We start swimming next Tuesday! We are sending in the ability forms tomorrow so the Pool Staff can group the kids accordingly.

On the first day it takes away swimming time if we have to regroup a bunch of kids! Let's get those forms in :)

Today was a Day 3 so we got to go on Mathletics. We did some Shape and Objects questions and then some of us were able to go on free time Mathletics and then play Live Mathletics! Get your child to show you how it works!

At the end of the day we talked about Mental Health. What is it? Why is it important? We watched a video explaining some of the importance related to Mental Health using movie clips from Inside Out. Talk with your child about the importance of expressing their emotions. We had some great conversations about it today!

Keep reading those Home Reading Books and bring them back on Friday!

Monday 29 January 2018

New Spelling Words and DRESS UP!

Before we received our new Spelling Words we had a mini lesson on Bossy E!
We learned that if the letter 'e' is at the end of a word, it often makes the vowel around it say it's name. It can only be 1 letter away. For example: cap -> cape, tap->tape, at->ate, cut->cute.

Group A- make, lake, shake, came, game, ate, tape, *come
Group B- *some, *come, home fun, funny, run, running, ran, us, use
Group C- pitch, drink, swim, life, while, I, my, light, buy, eye, which, find, kind, why, try

* = doesn't follow the Bossy E rule!

TOMORROW is Dress as your Favourite Book Character! If you've read a book with Belle then dress as her! If you've read a book about Spiderman....he's your guy! Get creative and dress up as anything you can find at home. ***NO MASKS*** We also still have gymnastics, so please keep that in mind! I'm dressing up too! Can't wait to see all your costumes tomorrow!

We also spent time today decorating our door with one of our favourite books. The Book With No Pictures! Your children are so smart that they know we don't need pictures to enjoy a good book!

Student Led Conferences

If you are able to come Thursday night we would love to see you. We understand that not everyone is able to make it. Please book through My CBE Account for 1 of 3 time slots. We will be showcasing, Social Studies, Science and Literacy. We will have a night dedicated to Math later this year, so watch for that.

Today during Math we learned that we are doing multiplication!!!!! WHAT!!! Mrs. Nelson is definitely not ready for us to be doing that, but boy did we feel awesome! We were working on Pictographs yesterday and today and then answering questions about them. We will continue to learn about graphs and create some on our own as well.

Mrs. Nelson showed us our spelling scores and we are going to make sure we look back at our old tests to practice words we may have gotten wrong. Everyone is doing good at the level they are currently on. Keep up the great work!

We finished the day by continuing to build and perfect our Inukshuit creation and writing.

We also discussed DRESS AS YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK CHARACTER! Coming up on January 31st. No masks and remember we will still be in gymnastics! We will also be decorating our door. We had 2 choices today! Ask your child what our ideas were!

Have a lovely evening!

Tuesday 23 January 2018

We had library today. Your child should be bringing home a new book to share with you. Please return it on Monday, January 29th.

Today we didn't practice our spelling words...our day got away on us before we realized. Please make sure to practice your spelling words at home each night. It should only take no more than 10 minutes or so. Ask your child the different ways we practice our words in the classroom.

Home Reading! Please read each night with your child. I have not seen some of their folders for quite sometime. Reading together builds fluency, a love for reading and it gives you great quality time together.

In Gymnastics we got to 5 out of 7 stations. We only had 2 classes in there so we got way more time on the equipment! It was awesome!

This afternoon we completed a concept map about what we know about Magnets. Ask your child to look for magnets in your home. Where are they? Do they have a purpose?

Wednesday 17 January 2018

We are working on Math word problems. They are touch, and our brains are getting a tough workout. We are learning addition and subtraction strategies as well.
